A sewer backup can send contaminated wastewater into basements, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other parts of a property. Because sewage can contain harmful contaminants, affected areas require controlled removal and thorough cleaning.
What the Job Involves
The affected area is inspected to determine where sewage has traveled. Wastewater is removed, contaminated porous materials are assessed for removal, and affected surfaces are cleaned and disinfected before drying begins.
Signs You Need It
- Sewage backing up through drains
- Contaminated standing water
- Strong sewage odors
- Wet or stained flooring
- Overflowing toilets or floor drains
- Sewage entering a basement or lower level
How the Work Goes
The affected area is secured as needed before contaminated water is extracted using appropriate equipment. Porous materials such as heavily contaminated carpet, padding, drywall, or insulation may need removal. Remaining surfaces are cleaned and disinfected, followed by moisture testing and structural drying.
What Affects the Cost
Cost depends on the affected square footage, wastewater volume, contamination level, accessibility, and amount of damaged material requiring removal. Sewage that spreads beneath flooring or into wall cavities can require additional cleanup and drying.
